Two of NS newest teachers are going to different schools next year. Both Toney Larson, the computer science teacher, and James Sadler, a math teacher, will be leaving NS.

The assistant principal Matt Syme said that these two teachers have been great this year with teaching their students. As new teachers, it can be hard with your first year of teaching, but with these two teachers they caught on fast.

“Both of them had to work to find their own style, but once they found their own teaching style they’ve been really good and really effective,” Syme said.

For Toney Larson she will be going to Virginia to be closer to family. During her time here she loved being a part of this school and getting to spend time with her students. She loved the school and the other teachers working here with her.

“I have no complaints at all. It’s a great school, the staff are amazing, and they really care about the students. They are very supportive and helpful,” Larson said.

For her this job experience has been her “perfect job” opportunity and she doesn’t want to leave it. She doesn’t like the thought of leaving and would rather stay to watch her students grow and graduate.

“The hardest part of leaving is leaving my students,” Larson said. “I was looking forward to watching them grow over the next four years and seeing them graduate and I’m losing that and I’m going to miss them the most.”

Larson grew up in Virginia and her family was a military family. She came to Utah after her former husband left the military. Larson writes her own books to which some of her students love.

For James Sadler, he will be going to Tintic School District and will be working with his wife. Some things he has learned from being here in this position about his teaching is being with his students and having a positive attitude.

“[I’ve learned] how to have positive interactions with students and overall positivity and also confidence in teaching,” Sadler said.

And although he’s going to a new district, he’s liked his time here at NS and thinks it’s a good school. He likes being in Sanpete and will continue living here while he goes to Tintic.

“It was a positive experience and was a good start to my teaching career,” Sadler said.

Sadler didn’t really like math but wanted to pursue it as his career. He’s going to stay in Sanpete while he teaches at his new school. He wanted to stay to teach with his father, but some things changed where he had to get a new job.

Students have enjoyed these teachers at the school. They have been great with their students. Sadler has been great with teaching little groups of students at a time and Larson has been great with teaching her big classes. Overall, they will be missed by many.

“We are going to miss them,” Syme said. “Both of them brought qualities that are going to be hard to replace and both of them have found themselves and they did do a really good job.”
