NS is a school where students with many different cultures and backgrounds are brought together with a focus on unity and inclusion. This year, the NS Times staff is striving to become a platform for student stories to be shared and recognized.
The main areas that will be covered this year are culture, diversity, heritage, inclusion, unity and creativity. The Sanpete area is a multicultural area that is constantly growing and expanding. For this exact reason, every student at NS has something to contribute to the culture and diversity of the world around them.
Exposure to different cultures and perspectives has been shown to increase childhood development and prepare students for a wider world than the rural county that many have lived in their entire lives. By welcoming students from all walks of life, NS installs a sense of unity and belonging in anyone open to embracing diversity.
We also want to look at influences from the past and how they are affecting student decision-making now, to look at the ways that students are making a change in their communities, and how those changes will affect their future and the future as a whole.
Despite the smaller size of Sanpete County, the community is diverse in both heritage and traditions. Some families in the area have been settled in the valley since the beginning and others have moved in the past few years. Regardless of the amount of time that any Sanpeter has been here, they have all become a contribution of the community.
Overall, the NS Times hopes to show and encourage students to reach out and genuinely find areas of their lives that connect them to each other, to unite NS as one body that prides itself on diversity and acceptance.
