The NS girls volleyball team has shown remarkable dedication during this season, with a current record of 14-3 overall and 7-1 in region play.

Coach Rickie Stewart highlights the importance of their teamwork, noting that during tough times, the girls support and uplift one another.

“The girls have had challenges but they stick together as a team and overcome it,” Stewart said.

A memorable moment for the team occurred during a recent match against their rivals, Emery, on Sept. 12. As the game unfolded, it became clear that victory was not going to come easily.

“It was a tough match,” said junior Mylee Cook, a key player. “We felt a lot of pressure during this game, but we kept reminding each other to stay positive.”

Her words show the team’s resilience in highly stressful situations. Throughout this match, the players pushed through and stayed together through every challenge, demonstrating sportsmanship and unity.

“Whenever someone made a mistake, we were there to lift them up,” Cook said.

This kind of mutual support proved to be important in shifting the game’s momentum. The atmosphere was electric as the team fought for every point, with each player fully invested in the outcome.

“The team really came together that day,” team manager Afton Walker said. “You could see their determination.”

This moment not only helped them push through tough moments but also strengthened their bond. Walker observed the positive energy and strength that the players used during the match.

The victory 3-2 against Emery not only boosted their confidence but also reminded them of their connection as teammates.

“No matter the challenge, the girls always pulled through,” Stewart said.

Her words outline the truth of every game the girls face. It’s a collective effort that extends beyond individual performances.

Since that tough match occurred, the team has built on the lessons learned. They now face challenges with renewed confidence, understanding that success is not solely about winning but about how they play together as a strong team. This shift in mindset has made a significant difference in their approach to each game.

The season has been marked by hard work and determination. The team is now focused on their upcoming matches, eager to apply what they have learned.

“They need to maintain a positive attitude and a commitment to each other,” Turpin said.

“I’m very proud of us for being ranked so high in the state. I think we have great potential to get far in the state tournament, however, we cannot overlook any of our opponents. Our next big game is the next game.” junior Kaylee Youd said.

The strength of their team lies in supporting one another, reminding the girls of the importance of teamwork, creating lasting memories and learning important lessons. Each practice and game serves as a new challenge they now choose to overcome and face as one.
