On Oct 1, the Innsanity, a haunted house located in Chester, opened for the month. This is a popular destination throughout October––and for good reason.
This particular haunted house is a traditional themed inn. You are escorted to room 13 where you are left unknowingly at what to expect next. You are then given rules and reassured of your safety upon entering.
Even for traditional Halloween thrill-seekers, or fearless men with something to prove, this will catch you off guard.
I found myself scared to turn a corner as there was no shortage of jump scares. The traditional loud noises and flashing lights added to the anxious environment, designed to increase your adrenaline.
I was not at a loss of intriguement as every room seemed to be different than the one before. They have taken advantage of the most popular fears and used them throughout the inn. These cliche yet still taunting fears include claustrophobia, clowns, dolls, loud noises, zombies, and to top it all off, a chainsaw.
I did find myself dis- appointed at some parts as they were stereotypical and lost the element of surprise, but I reached a good level of enjoyment by the end. The most memorable part in my experience was the ending. You are left in a maze, where a man with a mask and chainsaw chases you. It’s harmless yet still frightening.
After you’ve gone through the Innsanity, you can buy food and drinks, as well as stand around a fire to warm up as the days are getting colder.
Though this is not the best haunted house I’ve ever been to, I would recommend it to anyone in the area looking to find a good scare. I even found myself recognizing a few actors as many of them are students at NS high school. It is a good place to have a fun night out with friends and family and is open all through October.
