It was the 8th inning in one of the most important games, it was senior Payton Johnson up to bat. The score was 2-2, and all bases were loaded. Johnson knew this was the time to win the game. She hit a sacrifice fly, letting the girl on third base
run home, securing their 3-2 win against Carbon.

“We do better when we play together as a team and support each other,” said senior Dally Bailey.

The Lady Hawks’ softball team is off to a 12-8 record so far, including a 8-2 record in region.

One of the team’s biggest competitors this year is Carbon. Both teams have very similar track records and have played
close games against each other. The first time the two teams played against each other, Carbon won the game 6-5. The
second time was a different story, with NS winning 3-2 in the 8th inning.

“I think we just have a better mindset now,” said freshman Rylee Stewart

If the team wants to win region, they will need to figure out a way to beat Canyon View. They have only faced off against Canyon View once and lost 2-1. If they are able to win against Canyon view, their chances of winning region will greatly increase.

“Carbon has lost, we have lost, Canyon view has lost, but if we beat then we can win region,” said Bailey.

The last time the NS softball team has placed lower than 3rd in our region was the 2015-16 season. Last year, the team not only took 1st in region, but 2nd in state, losing to Grantsville in the championship. This year, the team is hoping to not only take region, but take state as well.

“We have a really talented group of girls,” said junior Shea Rawlinson.

This year, the team has seven seniors, all with different strengths and weaknesses. Indigo North has five home
runs. North also has a fielding percentage of 0.993. Bailey has a batting average of 0.438. Katelyn Johnson has a 2.94 earned
run average and hit 6 doubles. Madyson Steadman hit four triples and has hit 29 times.

“I think that we found a bit of ourselves as a team,” said Rawlinson.

The team is at a win record of 12-8 overall and a 8-2 win record in region. The team has played at home four times and won every single one of them. Currently, the team is tied for 1st with Carbon out of the 3A region 12. The team’s current winning streak is five.

“If we keep on playing like we are playing right now then I don’t think region will be a problem,” said Bailey.

With many trials and tribulations, and many more to come, the NS softball team has high hopes for region and state and hopes to take home the crown.
