Snow and how much we received and what it will do for us in the summer.

It has been a wet winter, but has it made a difference? Statistics show that in our region we are at 124% of average snow accumulation in the mountains and in the valley. Not just the mountains of NS, but almost all of Utah mountains have an above average amount of snow accumulation.
On the mountains in our region we have a 30 to 100 inches of snow pack. The Utah Water Association says that there will be sufficient amount of water to help us through the upcoming summer season. There will be enough water to help us through a summer drought if there is one again.
In all, we received about 70 to 73 inches of snow this season.
Long time Sanpete resident and local farmer, Jeff Watson, agrees with the statistics that we have received 100% average snow accumulation.
“Hard time loving it when you have to shovel it,” said Watson regarding the snow. “But, it is necessary because it helps the spring, irrigation, and recharges the earth.”
Local farmers are ready for spring to arrive so they can get their fields and gardens planted. The spring runoff will help provide water to drink and irrigate fields and gardens.
Along with the snow already in the mountains, more storms are forecasted to come in soon. They will continue to build our current snowpack and help to refill ponds and lakes in the area.
