The NS Baseball team is enthusiastic about the beginning of a new season after their success from their first seven games. Starting off with four wins and two losses within a margin of two points, the boys are looking forward to see what this year’s team can do.
“I see some returning seniors that will contribute a lot,” said head varsity baseball coach Daniel Christensen. “I see some juniors that are starting to play a little bit better, and some younger kids that will contribute to the varsity team this year.”
With the experience they have this year, the team plans to work hard and gain positive results.
“I expect the team to win some ball games and to play to the best of their ability,” Christensen said. “I expect them to give it all they’ve got and we may have a shot to take region.”
Many players agree with Christensen; they expect a lot of good to happen this season.
“I expect us to take region if we really work at it,” said senior captain Garrett Christensen. “We’re a good team and it should be a good year.”
The team currently has a 4-3 record on the season after a four-game tournament in Kanab last weekend. They are hoping to build on the solid start and out perform last year’s group.
Last year the team took a total of 7 wins throughout the course of the season. They won 4 home games and 3 away.
“I’m looking forward to this season because us seniors have been playing together since we were pretty little, so I really think we can do good this year,” Garrett Christensen said.
A lot of the players agree that they have developed many friendships with their teammates.
“I’m looking forward to going out there and having fun with my friends and just seeing what we can do on the field,” senior Shawn Taylor said.
The coaches and the team are all pretty close and have good relationships, and it helps bring them together on the field.
“I like the team; I enjoy being out here with these guys,” Daniel Christensen said. “They’re good guys, so I like the relationships I have with the players and I like to see them develop into good young men.”
