This year, NS has been fortunate enough as to have a swim team that has had great results with small numbers. Sadly the season has ended, and even though the team did not qualify for state, the members are having a great attitude towards their outcome and success in the water.
I’m not that disappointed,” said senior Ben Andersen. “Throughout the entireseason I didn’t actually plan on making it because I’m not as fast as I used to be, and I made it last year, so I guess I’m not that disappointed.” With the end of the season one must wonder how far they have improved from their first practice to the last meet. “I could barely swim twenty-five yards on the first day without resting a while at the end, and at the end of the season I could go a full one hundred yards without stopping,” said senior Ben Fryer. “So I would say I improved a lot.”
But Fryer isn’t the only one that has improved, most of the team would beat their old record by the end of the season, and blow bubbles better. “Before season started we had preseason practices, Trevor Ence couldn’t blow bubbles,” Andersen said. “He could do little bits but not a constant stream. Now it’s like; does flip, turns, blow bubbles, and pushes off the wall and it’s actually super cool to watch it.”
Not only will the team be losing its two seniors, but it will also be losing its Coach. Coach Katelyn Crowther is currently a student at Snow College. She will finish her semester and then go on with the rest of her life. So it is no surprise that some of the teammates are a little worried about the future of the swim team they worked so hard to build.
“They better keep the swim team at least, because we need a new coach, and I’m [graduating],” Andersen said. “So I’m just hoping that there will at least will be a swim team.”
Even though the ripples of the water have died down and the crowd has cleared, the memories from this year’s swim team will always be with the five students that started it all.
