NS students took home top prizes in many categories at the Sterling Scholar competition held Tuesday, March 21 in Richfield.
The Hawks won in four categories and were runners-up in six more out of a possible 15, the most awards won by any school at the contest that involving 13 other schools from the surrounding areas.
The winners for NS were Ethan Ostraff (Visual Art), Nicole Day (Business and Marketing), Makenzy Palmer (World Languages), and Jennifer Boekweg (Speech and Debate).
The runners-up for the Hawks included Dustin Angerhofer (Math), Lydia Madsen (General), Abraham Bunting (Music), Melanie Beck (Dance), Avery Briggs (English and Literature), and Mayra Patino (Family and Consumer Science).
The winners receive full-tuition and fees scholarships for nearly all colleges and universities in the state and an additional $1,000 scholarship. Runners-up also earn scholarships to various schools and a $500 scholarship.
This is the highest number of winners and runners-up NS has ever had.
