The NS drama department performed the musical Goosebumps. They all worked hard to get it ready in only about two months. They usually have a little more time to prepare but this year they wanted to do it in time for Halloween.
“One thing that made it most challenging is putting the musical together as fast as we have because we usually have more time,” Alex Barlow said.
Barlow is the director and was very excited to perform this musical, especially right before Halloween.
The main characters were Brooke Rodgers played by Adelay Stavros, Zeke who’s played by Seth Howarth, Tina Powell played by Haven Caldwell, Corey who’s played by Connor Power, and Brian played by Thayne Smith.
Many people thought that since it was a Goosebumps based musical that none of the little kids would like it.
“The only thing that is really scary is the phantom,” Caldwell said. “This show isn’t like the Disney movie musicals we have done in the past, but kids would still be able to enjoy it.”
The Goosebumps musical was surprising and comedic, including some funny characters and some jump scares. It’s nothing that any of the cast had done before. With their other musicals being Disney, this gave them the chance to show what some of the actors are like and what they’re capable of.
The show took many turns and twists and lots of unexpected things happened, especially at the end. You get a very big surprise in who the phantom truly was.
“I thought it was cool to play the Phantom a little bit and pull out the plot twist at the end,” Smith said.
All of the actors were excited after they performed. They were surprised at how well they did, though some wished they could have done better. Overall they all thought it was fun.
“Things always go wrong. You will never have a perfect show, but you just keep rolling with it and most of the time the audience will never know,” Stavros said.
Barlow thought that all of his cast and tech crew all did well. Of course there were little mistakes made, but it all worked out and was taken care of.
“There are always things that we could have done better. All we have to do is work hard the next time and after we do that everything will be fine,” Power said.
