The NS baseball team is looking confident to go far as they practice this season. The baseball team has a Freshman/Sophomore team that plays on different fields than varsity.
Sophomore Wesley Madsen is excited for what the season has in store.
“Hopefully this year we can win more because last year varsity only won [one] game out of the season,” Madsen said.
The team has recruited new assistant coach Thomas Fell, a teacher at NS. He lives in Spanish Fork, and commutes daily.
“I appreciate our coaches knowing that Coach Fell drives from up north everyday not only to teach, but to coach us and pass his wisdom to the team which helps a lot,” Madsen said.
This year Fell’s, son has been playing baseball. Senior Tristen Fell is the starting varsity pitcher and loves the intensity on the team and sees this team going further than what they did in the past.
Sophomore Garret Christensen is also a pitcher and played for the team last year and sees what the team needs or what bad habits it should lose.
“We just need to come together as a team and maybe we can start pulling in some wins instead of only thinking about ourselves,” said Christensen.
The team is currently 1-4, with losses against Gunnison, as well as Kanab and South Sevier twice at a two day tournament in Kanab. Their one win was to Morgan, 6-5.
Overall, it’s the start of a new era for the baseball team as they strive for perfection during practice, learning and fixing their habits from last year the baseball team looks forward to all the games knowing that they will do better than last year.
