NS has been an up and running high school since 1912. Over a century this school has had many accomplishments each year, and this year is no different. NS has swelled to nearly 800 students mostly because they’re coming back from online school. Some teachers were teaching over 200 students per week, including some new teachers, math teacher Karen Sorenson, computer tech teacher Toney Larson, and math teacher James Sadler.
But they weren’t the only ones teaching, coaches were also teaching athletes how to win, and win they did. The girls tennis team entered region in second place, the girls soccer team dominated the field with taking down Emery with a 10-0 score, and girls volleyball placing at state after a challenging season.
Later in the winter season the boys wrestling team places in divisionals, the swim team has members that continuously broke multiple records, girls basketball went to the first round of state.
The softball team took third in state and after in the first year as a sanctioned sport, boys volleyball took second at state. Boys basketball also had many great victories during their season.
Sports aren’t the only extracurricular activities that had victories. Speech and Debate started the year strong by taking 4th place in region 5th place in state.
NS choir received a perfect score at the state competition, and the robotics club also had success in national competitions.
The drama department won the best musical through 1A-6A schools, a huge accomplishment for any school anywhere, and Alex Barlow was named best director of all high schools in the state.
Prom and homecoming were also a huge accomplishment with the theme Tangled. Gracie Larsen was crowned prom queen and Cash Cook prom king, with homecoming the freshman attendant was Aubree Kendall, sophomore attendant was Kipplyn Holbrook, junior attendant was Robyn Syme, and homecoming queen was Sadie Hathaway.
Though the royalty has passed, the new attendance policy still stands. This policy has been an on on-going conversation with many. The new attendance policy is a ten-point system. If a student is close to ten points, they are on restriction warning, ten points is activity restriction. If a student on activity restriction you can no longer go to any activities such as prom, sports, games, and dances.
Just two weeks ago NS also chose new SBOs for next year. They are Brant Lund as the president, Alivia Madsen as the vice president, Jackson Dimmick as the Secretary, Gracie Larson as the activity agent, and Angela Vasquez as Media Specialist.
As this year ends there will be more victories won, more accomplishments, and new people to connect with in the years to come.
