Musical Delay

For three months, the NS drama team had been working hard to prepare for the musical “The Music Man.” The team had everything ready, even working two weeks for tech week. Everything came to a screeching halt, however, as much of the cast was suddenly struck ill.

The musical was supposed to run from Nov. 18-23, a matinee show. It was pushed back, however, to Nov 20-26.

“It’s irritating, but it’s not a huge deal, other than having to cancel ticket sales,” junior Logan Martin said. “Ethan’s gonna recover, Barlow’s gonna recover, the show itself will be fine.”

Many of the team who were sick likely got it from stress or from other students in the school, as it is the season of giving… and, unfortunately, giving illnesses.

“A lot of times, kids will get sick right before a performance or before our shows just because they’ve been working hard, they’re stressed, they haven’t been sleeping,” assistant director Sarah Anderson said. “Something’s going around, they just so happen to get it, which is sad.”

This year’s cast had 47 students, which is slightly larger than the usual cast size. Director and drama teacher Alex Barlow chose the classical piece after last year’s more contemporary musical, “Amélie.”

“It’s a really fun show,” Barlow said. “The kids really wanted to do more of a classical show, and we did a contemporary show last year.”
