The atmosphere in the theater was electric as performers celebrated their victory at the state competition, with smiles and excitement shared among friends, capturing the pure joy and excitement of their achievement. Soaking in the satisfaction of realizing that all their hard work had successful results.

On April 10-12 the NS drama team placed first at state in their one act play, “Arkansas Bear.” The work and effort they put into state paid off and was rewarding. The drama team one act wasn’t the only thing that was placed. Beau Johnson also placed first as best character actor.

“They did really really well on their one act and I was really proud of them,” NS drama teacher Alex Barlow said.

This pride in their performance reflects not just individual achievements but also the collective effort and bond that has formed and developed within the group.

“It was awesome! They announced my name and everyone jumped up and everyone’s screaming,” Johnson said. “One of the things about the drama team is that they are one of the most supportive teams out there.”

The drama team is a close-knit group that fosters strong bonds, where everyone truly celebrates each other’s successes and shares in their happiness.

“I think that everybody who does theater is really kind and they’re the type of people who want to support you and genuinely care about your success,” junior Emma Wallace said.

After Beau’s diligent efforts and unwavering dedication, his hard work finally paid off, proving that perseverance truly leads to success and consistent efforts pay off.

“It was super cool because I had all these people come up to me, including people I have never spoken to, and they congratulated me,” Johnson said.

It was a moment of great pride for him, reflecting the culmination of his efforts and achievements as he stood there surrounded by loved ones, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment and gratitude for all the challenges he had overcome along the way.

“I love when you have a talent and you’re recognized for it,” Johnson said.

After months of dedicated practice and relentless effort, Johnson was awarded a significant role in the play after playing featured characters for so long.

“Finally I get this lead part with five times the lines I have ever had,” Johnson  said. “It’s something really different.”

While Johnson enjoys playing a prominent role in the play, he also values the chance to portray featured characters, as he loves the thrill of stepping into diverse roles that challenge him creatively and allows him to express his passion for acting in new and exciting ways.

“At the end of the day I don’t mind not being the lead. I actually really enjoy being a supportive actor,” Johnson said. “No matter what character you’re playing I think you should put the same effort into all of them.”

Another actor, Emma Wallace, has also made a significant impact with her performance,  placing second for her dramatic monologue.

“It felt really good,” Wallace said. “I was really excited.”

Although she didn’t secure first place and felt a bit disappointed, she was genuinely happy to have placed among the top three, recognizing that this achievement reflected her hard work and dedication encouraging her to strive for even greater success in the future.

“I really wanted to get first place but second place in the state I was like, ‘Wow, that is so cool,’” Wallace said.

The drama team was also incredibly supportive of her, demonstrating their pride in her accomplishments, which fostered a positive and encouraging environment that allowed her to thrive and grow as an actor.

“They were so cute, they all stood up, clapped and they were yelling,” Wallace said.

Wallace possesses a deep passion for theatre and truly adores every aspect of it. Her enthusiasm for theatre shows in their performances, motivating those around them.

“Theatre is magic, it transforms who you are in the world,” Wallace said, “not because you are pretending to be someone else but because you are taking parts of other people, the good parts and the bad parts, and you’re creating that to tell a story.”
