Despite the struggles of the pandemic, the choir is planning on having their first performance on Dec. 1 at the school. There are a few guidelines they will follow, and for those who don’t feel comfortable coming, there will be a live stream of the performance.

“The way that we are going to approach this is we are going to socially distance the audience by pre-selling tickets and having assigned seating,” said Timothy Kidder the NS choir teacher, “and we will also live stream the performance if anyone can’t come or doesn’t feel comfortable, but still have them listen.”

At the performance, the students will have to social distance and stay six feet apart while singing. This is not a big change because they do this every day during class when practicing.

The choir will also perform with masks. They have been practicing with them on and for some, it is harder to sing with. The masks also block the sound when singing.

“We have to sing with masks on, which some people have a little bit of a challenge with, but after a while, you get used to it,” said Kason Erickson, a junior at NS.

The live stream will be very beneficial for people because of covid-19 and all the different circumstances people are going through. For people who are at higher risk of covid-19, it gives them an opportunity to watch. It also gives the choir more ways to get their music out.

“I think it’s a good idea because some people can’t go because they are at risk and some might not be able to show up, so they like to watch it on technology,” Erickson said.

It’s been challenging for students only playing the same songs. This is because they have yet to have a concert due to covid-19.

“We usually have like three concerts the first semester, but this year we haven’t had one yet, so we just keep singing the same four songs over and over again which is not very fun,” said Kaylee Madsen, a senior at NS.

This will probably be the only concert this semester, but they hope to have multiple next semester. They also still plan on attending their region choir festival, which will be hosted at NS.

“We are supposed to host it this year, and I’m not exactly sure what that is going to look like with all the schools and stuff,” Kidder said.

The choir class is super excited to be able to perform, and happy to finally get their talent out there for people to enjoy.

“I think it’s really fun just to share with people what we’ve been working on and how hard we’ve been working,” Madsen said.

Throughout all of the challenges this class has faced, they’ve been having fun still and are still motivated every day to sing.

“We’ve just been working hard and getting better,” Kidder said.
