Senior Ethan Allred had a very clever way to ask his date, Ava Lamb, to homecoming. Allred made a grand piano out of cardboard and filled it with chocolate on the inside.

Allred was the winner of the NS homecoming asking competition and was announced on Sept. 16 at the homecoming assembly.

Building a piano and putting a lot of the key details was a lot of work. It had taken a long time and a lot of emotion.

“There’s always a bit of anxiety that goes along with it,” Allred said. “It was fun to create though.”

Allred was relieved when he saw Lamb’s reaction.

“She smiled a lot at first, so yeah, it was a pretty good reaction I would say,” Allred said.

With the creative way he asked, Allred wasn’t surprised to hear that he won.

“I wasn’t entirely surprised to be honest, I felt I had a pretty good chance,” Allred said.

The homecoming dance was held Sept. 17 and many students got to enjoy a fun filled night after their dates that day.

This year, like others, people have been creative with ways they ask others including construction equipment and animals.

Ava Lamb, the media specialist for the NS student body officers, talked about how the winner is chosen.

She explained that it’s mostly about creativity. Whoever asked or got asked would either send it over text or tag them on Instagram. Then the SBOs all decide on who they think was the most inventive.

“I think it’s because when you go to social media it’s super easy to connect, and I think it’s super fun to see how other people get asked,” Lamb said.

It’s also a fun way to get people involved in some way during homecoming. Many people enjoy seeing what others did and who wins.

Most of the time people are happy with whoever won.

“Winning an asking contest isn’t gonna make or break a homecoming,” Lamb said. “It’ll still be super fun.”
