Kendrick Lamar won 2017 Rap Album of the Year, and we are given a rare gift from him in the new “Black Panther” soundtrack. You see, it’s not just every day they have someone like Lamar help tackle something like the soundtrack of one of the most anticipated movie of 2018 so far.
Many couldn’t wait for the Marvel comic book film “Black Panther” to be released, and the soundtrack also had high expectations. That’s no surprise when this big of a music artist helps put something like this out there.
With “Black Panther” having two actors who have previously played iconic African American characters, it makes sense that they also use an iconic African American artist that is currently killing the game in the music business.
The album itself starts out with the song “Black Panther.” The song starts out with a nice tribal feel, then goes to just piano and Lamar calling himself “King.” With his songs, Lamar has put his life in combination with the life of the “Black Panther.” You can see that with each word the album is inspired by the movie.
The album takes the listener through a roller coaster with different instruments and different emotions with every song. Some songs make you think about who you are and where you came from. Other songs get your adrenaline running and might become your new workout songs. A good album is not monotone; it doesn’t keep the same beat the whole album. Every song can’t be identical or you’ll never be able to write hit songs.
The question that every artist asks themselves is, “How do I make a fantastic album?” The way the producers and Lamar, along with everyone else that took part, used that idea and incorporated it into the film is unlike anything anyone has ever seen.
All in all, this soundtrack is without doubt very different than ones you’ve heard before. Many movies producers don’t even consider pop artists to help create a soundtrack. Let’s just say, I’m pretty glad they did for this one.
