Local business 180 fitness has introduced a new sport facility to Mt. Pleasant.

Located 1100 S 70W Mount Pleasant, up llama lane, it is a big bright red building surrounded by a log fence just south of the city park.

Once you open the doors you are met by a bright black and red basketball court with a batting cage on the top of it. To the right of the basketball court, nets surround a little less than normal sized turf field.

“It’s not a full indoor field –  it’s smaller, more like a 3v3, 4v4 size,” said Sharlenne Hess.

Hess, a personal trainer at 180 Fitness, has been renting out the facility’s new turf field every Tuesday and Saturday nights to play soccer in.

“So what we’re doing on Tuesday nights is my husband and I rent it out, and we just ask everybody that’s coming to pay to pitch in five dollars to pay for that, and we just make up the difference,” Hess said.

Turf has a much different feel to play soccer on than grass but some like it than others.

“I love it so much I can’t even express how much I love it,” Hess said.

Abigail Philpot, a junior at NS, has been going to Tuesday night soccer practices whenever she’s able to.

“I like it because it’s smaller, it helps with your skills on the ball and off the ball with your movement because you have to be moving faster in a smaller space,” Philpot said.

Hess has Tuesday nights set for high schoolers to come and play and Saturday is set for an all woman league.

“I know what I have watched on Tuesday nights, and it is absolutely helping the ability of the kids there so I think it’s helping it gives the kids somewhere to go,” Hess said..

A big worry is if the temperature is suitable to be playing and running around in but it seems it’s not too big of a problem.

“Well, since it’s been a good summer we’ve had more hot days than we have cold for sure we have really haven’t felt cold in there yet,” Hess said.

Philpot expressed her complaint over the heat.

“I love it except it’s really hot in there, and I hate it when it’s hot.” Philpot said.

The company has had pretty good business but has struggled getting word out about the new facility.

“I heard about it from just the boys soccer team,” Philpot said.

Not many have heard much about the new facility and the only word mostly that has gotten around is only by the people that have been going.

“That’s what’s hard as I was relying on the boys’ soccer coach and the boys kind of getting the word out,” Hess said.

The facility’s future looks bright once more advertisements get put out about it.

“I’m hoping it’ll look up as soon as we start getting the word out and yeah, provide stuff for the community and hopefully be able to keep the place afloat,” Hess said.
