Everyone who enjoys basketball knows what March Madness is all about. And this year, the annual college basketball tradition is being brought to NS, as the SBOs have decided to host a bracket challenge contest through the CBS website.

“I think it’s a really cool activity to get us all together and give us something to talk about, and that makes school that much more enjoyable,” said Kasey Curtis, SBO.

Students and teachers at NS were able to sign into the website, and predict which teams will win in the single elimination tournament called March Madness. Points are awarded by picking games correctly. At the end of March, prizes will be given to the student or teacher with the most points. If necessary, tiebreakers will also take place.

“Even though I don’t watch a ton of the games, I just enjoy the big event,” said Student Body President Carson Hadley.

It’s not possible to watch each and every game in March Madness, as the playoffs happen during school hours and regularly occur at the same time. Also, some students or teachers may not be interested in watching basketball games.

The fun in this activity comes with comparing brackets with friends to see which of you is closest. Some of the contestants probably didn’t even go off of which team they thought was going to win, but off of which logo they liked or which school has the best mascot, but either way is exactly the way this activity was meant to be experienced.

“I think more people should get involved,” Hadley said.

It doesn’t matter if you enjoy sports or if you even know what basketball or March Madness even is, the important part is to have fun and create stronger bonds with your schoolmates and teachers. The thought behind this activity is not ‘who is the best person at predicting,’ but ‘how can we get school spirit up in the month of March?’

“I think, all in all, that it just brings the school closer together,” Curtis said.
