NS has received a new gym teacher from Orem who is soon going to move to Springville. Steve Solen, age 33, enjoys teaching and expressing his knowledge.
Solen is also the new boys soccer coach filling in for Julio Tapia who was deployed over the summer. Before coaching at NS, Solen was coaching at private school ALA up north in Utah.
“Coaching for ALA was a great experience that expressed what I and the players can do as a team,” said Solen.
While coaching at ALA, Solen received a prestigious coaching award (GIVE US THE NAME OF THE AWARD) that is given to the top coaches out of California, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Expensive soccer equipment was the reward and Solen is going to share it with the boys soccer team at NS. Over the years coaching there Solen managed to help the soccer team win region in multiple occasions and two state champions. He feels that he can bring that same level of success to NS.
“There’s lot of talent here that needs to be shown, and I think we can do that while winning region and placing in state,”Solen said.
ALWAYS — USE A TRANSITION BETWEEN QUOTES. TRY SOMETHING LIKE THIS:
Though Solen can see the talent and potential of the students here, he also knows that transitions can be difficult.
“Being a teacher and a coach it’s hard to adapt, but the people here are welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed,” said Solen.
Solen is currently building a house in Springville which unfortunately makes him take days off to help build his house but really enjoys that no questions are asked when he asks to take the days off.
“People here understand that you have a life after teaching and that’s one of the reasons I’m glad that I took the job here,” said Solen.
