With one of the biggest girls golf teams in NS history, the program is ready to win tournaments and take region.

“I’m excited for this season,” said golf coach Digger Henrie, “The year before last year we had Richfield and Grand in our region and those girls golf from when they are like eight years old, and so it was ridiculous… I’m super excited for this year. I think we could win region.”

Not only is Henrie excited, but the older girls on the team share his enthusiasm and optimism as well.

“I’m feeling so good this year,” said senior Morgan Drew, “We have a lot of girls, and so the more girls we have, I think the better we can do because we can match up experience, and the team is just looking really good. A lot of the teams at our practice tournament didn’t score that well, so it was pretty cool.”

And when it comes to experience, that is something that they are starting to have. They have three seniors on the team and nine returning players. They also have five new girls coming in, who are also very talented.

“There are a lot of girls who are in the same area,” said senior Kaylee Madsen, “I know that a lot of girls practice a lot and our coaches push us to our limits, so we can get better. At this tournament we went to, we did really well.”

The girls who are in the same area are some of the older and more experienced golfers on the team who have been pushed to their limit by coaches.

“We have a lot of senior girls who I know are going to do really well for us,” Henrie said, “there are also a lot of new freshmen coming in and I know if we help them, they can all do really well.”

While their coaches push them to their limits, they still have a fun time at practice and at tournaments just being with others.

“I really like the atmosphere,” Drew said. “I like the coaches. It’s really just a chill sport and I’m not ever stressing about it. It’s fun to go to practice and fun to hang out with the girls, and it’s awesome.”

And with that good atmosphere, they managed to get second at the practice tournament with sophomore Tylee Henrie scoring the best with a 114. The only team they lost to was Union.

“As a team, Tylee did the best,” Drew said, “We did really good as a team. We got second overall and Union got first. Union has really good girls and they are going to be our only real competition, I think.”
