The NS football team has had immense challenges this season but continues to push through and hope for the best during playoffs.

As the clock counted down to end the game the student section got ready to run in the field and celebrate their first win of the season.

The win against Manti was much needed, giving them just their second region win of the season, with a score of 28-20. While the final score was close, NS was up 8 with under a minute left in the 4th quarter.

“Probably, I dare say, our best defensive run of the season,” said Coach Matt Roberts.

As playoffs are coming closer and closer they are starting to see better games and better odds.

The team has their first round of playoffs this Friday, against Ben Lomond. If they win this game, they will continue on to the second round which will be on Oct. 29 .

Though they haven’t had the season they hoped for, as they were missing key players, they are starting to come back and they are seeing improvement.

“Right now is a good time for us to make a run for it,” Head Coach Rhett Bird said.

Right now Bird and Roberts have high hopes for the rest of the season hoping to make it through playoffs and maybe even win the state championship despite the setbacks that the football team has experienced this season.

Both coaches think that they have a winning chance for the playoffs. As teammates have started to come back, players have seen improvement as they come together.

They have had a tough season as they have only won three games but have high hopes that as key players start playing again, they can win their next two games and even make it all the way to the state championship.

“I think we can go all the way and win (the) state championship,” Roberts said. “Players agree that they have been making progress since getting starters back.”

“We have really started to come together as a team as they have come back,” starting running back Xander Shelley said.

Other players such as William Wright and Duncan Hendry are seeing the same improvements as Shelley. They had to work together and really learn how each other plays and works with the key players gone.

Before the season started, they lost their first game against Payson, but then won the next two one being a shutout and winning the other by six points.

Then they lost all their games up until they won against the Templars. They had a close game on the 8th against Canyonview losing 28- 27.

They almost won their first game against Richfield losing just by one point, 14-15. A sim- ilar situation happened at their first game against Payson when they lost by five points, 40-35.

Before playing Richfield, they lost some of their key players when they were suspended. But they still managed to pull through without them and almost beat Rich- field.

As of yet, they haven’t had the chance to match up against Richfield again, but they might have a chance of playing against them and hopefully winning during playoffs.

After playing Payson they had a shutout after playing Emery. Then they won against Delta and lost against Grantsville. And they lost against Desert Hills, Richfield and Juab.

Currently they are ranked fifth in the 3A region just below Juab. They have won 3 out of 5 games and lost 2 this season.
